HOM Design & Build completed this kitchen renovation in the Newington area of Springfield, Virginia. The existing wood cabinets were prepared and professionally sprayed with Sherwin-Williams Emerald paint, then protected with a clear topcoat. Behind the sink, the raised wall was cut down and made flush so the MSI Surfaces quartz countertop could extend into a breakfast bar. The finished kitchen pairs bright perimeter cabinetry with a contrasting dark island, marble-look quartz, a gray mosaic backsplash, stainless appliances, updated wall color and expanded recessed lighting.

Retaining the cabinetry preserved the layout

Professional preparation and a sprayed finish changed the visual weight of the kitchen while keeping the existing cabinet system in service.

The lowered wall improves connection

Bringing the wall behind the sink down to counter height opens the sightline and allows the quartz surface to continue into a usable breakfast bar.

Contrast organizes the room

Bright perimeter cabinets, a dark island and softly veined quartz separate the work zones while the mosaic backsplash ties the palette together.
